Skip the Holiday Baking: Chicagoland Bakeries

The holidays are upon us in Chicago, and there's always a lot to do before the whole family arrives for big holiday meals. If you find yourself running out of time for tasks like baking, don't worry. Our real estate agents are here to help.

Thanks to the folks at these outstanding local bakeries, you can leave the pie-making to somebody else this year. No matter where in Chicagoland you call home, there's a great pie shop nearby.

  • Hoosier Mama Pie Company - 1618 W Chicago Ave, Chicago, IL 60622

Nestled in Chicago's West Town neighborhood, the cozy Hoosier Mama Pie Company is a relatively new pie shop with an old-fashioned feel. Classic recipes and retro decor make this a thoroughly enjoyable place to sit and savor a slice of pie and a cup of coffee. Hoosier Mama Pie Company also offers whole pies to go, including rotating seasonal favorites as well as old standbys like apple, cherry, pumpkin and banana cream.

  • First Slice Pie Cafe - 5357 N Ashland Ave, Chicago, IL 60640

Since opening in 2007, First Slice Pie Cafe has become a Chicago mainstay with three locations including a neighborhood favorite in Andersonville. The bakery takes holiday preorders leading up to both Thanksgiving and Christmas, so you can rest assured that your pie will be fresh and ready. First Slice makes one of the best traditional apple pies in Chicago, as well as tasty and creative offerings like balsamic raspberry pear.

  • Honeypie Bake Shop - 6155 N Broadway, Chicago, IL 60660

Some of the tastiest pies in Chicago come from Honeypie Bake Shop, a small bakery and cafe that crafts each scratch-made pie by hand. The bakers at this Edgewater spot offer a wonderful selection of classic fruit pies and cream pies, along with specialty pies and quiche. Thanksgiving preorders are ongoing for mouth-watering options like apple and Door County cherry — both available in regular and vegan variations — along with pumpkin, chocolate cream and whiskey walnut pecan.

  • The Happy Apple Pie Shop - 226 Harrison St, Oak Park, IL 60304

The Happy Apple Pie Shop is nestled in the Chicago-adjacent village of Oak Park where it not only produces top-notch pies but also provides work opportunities for people with disabilities. The menu changes constantly, with new pies routinely being offered depending on the availability of seasonal fruits and other ingredients. The Happy Apple sells out almost daily, so it pays to arrive early!

  • Pie Boss - 1649 Montgomery Rd, Aurora, IL 60504

A laid-back bakery in Aurora specializing in savory pies, Pie Boss has earned a devoted following. Ty, the founder, is especially known for crafting pie recipes that capture the flavors of his native South Africa, like spicy mixed vegetable and chicken curry pot pies. Sweet dessert pies are available, too. Most pies are available freshly baked or frozen, allowing you to take them home and bake them at your convenience.

  • Bang Bang Pie & Biscuits - 2051 N California Ave, Chicago, IL 60647

Whatever baked goods you need for your holiday dinner, the talented bakers at Bang Bang Pie and Biscuits have you covered. This Logan Square bakery offers a broad array of pies from sweet (roasted pumpkin, classic apple, chocolate pecan) to savory (wild mushroom, southern tomato, chicken pot pie), as well as some of the best scratch-made biscuits around. Their biscuit stuffing is also a real holiday treat this season.
